I love action movies. I love watching Jason Statham in action movies. He is like the Steve McQueen of the present generation of stars: Mr. Cool. My favorite Statham line is from one of the Transporter movies where he is going to fight a bunch of guys but must take his suit coat off first. After all, it just came back from the cleaners. Ahhh, that Frank Martin, he is such a card.
Killer Elite is supposedly based on a true story. Of course, the true story is based on a novel but, hey, it could be true. You know how these government spy things go. Statham plays an assassin whose former partner (Robert DeNiro) is taken hostage to force Statham out of retirement to do a particularly nasty job. On the other side is Clive Owen, a former British SAS operative who is determined to catch him. Both of these guys have formidable skills but the task given to Statham is impossible to complete successfully.
As the film unfolds we see Statham not just in a physical battle but in a battle of wits with Owen as well. The action plays out well but it is the unexpected ending that really satisfies.
